Ingredients
-
3 ripe bananas (mashed)
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
-
1 large egg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
-
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a large mixing bowl, peel and mash the ripe bananas until smooth. You can use a fork or a potato masher for this step.
Add the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Whisk everything together until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) into the batter. Reserve a handful of chocolate chips to sprinkle on top before baking.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Once completely cooled, cut into squares and serve.
