For the Fish Tacos:

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or halibut)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas

For the Cabbage Slaw:

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (green or purple)

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp lime juice

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Optional Toppings:

  • Sliced avocado

  • Fresh cilantro

  • Lime wedges

  • Hot sauce or salsa


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage Slaw

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrots.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lime juice, honey, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until evenly coated. Set aside in the fridge to chill.

Step 2: Prepare the Fish

  1. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and cut them into 2-inch strips.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another dish, whisk together milk and egg.
  4. Dip each fish strip into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture to coat evenly.

Step 3: Fry the Fish

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Carefully place the coated fish strips into the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove the fish and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Warm the Tortillas

  1. Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for 20-30 seconds until warm and pliable.

Step 5: Assemble the Tacos

  1. Place a few pieces of fried fish on each tortilla.
  2. Top with a generous amount of cabbage slaw.
  3. Add optional toppings like avocado slices, cilantro, or a squeeze of lime juice.
