For the Beef and Noodles:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or thinly sliced sirloin)

  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 8 oz (225g) egg noodles

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the French Onion Sauce:

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half

  • 1 packet French onion soup mix (or 2 tbsp homemade French onion seasoning)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp thyme (dried or fresh)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional Toppings:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

  • Shredded mozzarella or Gruyère cheese

  • Croutons or crispy fried onions

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  • Thinly slice the onions and mince the garlic.

  • If using ground beef, ensure it’s thawed. If using sirloin, slice it thinly against the grain.

Step 2: Cook the Onions

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Add the sliced onions and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown.

Step 3: Brown the Beef

  • Push the onions to one side of the skillet and add the remaining oil.

  • Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a wooden spoon.

Step 4: Add Garlic and Seasonings

  • Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, thyme, and paprika. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5: Prepare the Sauce

  • In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, heavy cream, French onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce.

  • Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir to combine.

Step 6: Cook the Noodles

  • Add the egg noodles to the skillet, ensuring they’re submerged in the sauce.

  • Cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the noodles are tender.

Step 7: Add Cheese and Finish

  • Stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.

  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 8: Serve

  • Garnish with fresh parsley, shredded cheese, or crispy onions. Serve hot and enjoy!
