For the Cheese Mixture:

15 oz (425g) ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper
For Layering:

12 lasagna noodles (oven-ready or boiled)

4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meat Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and garlic, sauté until fragrant (2-3 minutes).
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces. Cook until browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, red wine (if using), sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the sauce for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 2: Prepare the Cheese Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
Step 3: Cook the Lasagna Noodles
- If not using oven-ready noodles, boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread 1 cup of meat sauce at the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1 cup of meat sauce and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers twice, ending with a final layer of noodles, meat sauce, and a generous topping of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Step 5: Bake the Lasagna
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before serving.
