Ingredients
Scale
- 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls (cut into cubes)
- 6 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- ½ cup brown sugar (for topping)
- Powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
Step 2: Prepare the Rolls
- Cut the Hawaiian sweet rolls into 1-inch cubes and spread them evenly in the baking dish.
Step 3: Make the Custard Mixture
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
Step 4: Soak the Rolls
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cubed rolls. Use a spatula to gently press down on the rolls, ensuring they soak up the liquid. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Step 5: Add the Topping
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar. Drizzle this mixture over the soaked rolls.
Step 6: Bake
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. If the top browns too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil.
Step 7: Serve
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup.
