Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 1 ½ pounds (680 g) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for sautéing)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 (28-ounce) cans of baked beans
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional for extra flavor)
Optional Add-ins:
- Cooked bacon bits
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Jalapeños for heat
- Dash of hot sauce
- Green onions or parsley for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or a thin layer of oil.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil (if needed) and ground beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned. Drain excess fat.
Step 3: Sauté Vegetables
Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the ground beef. Sauté until soft—about 4-5 minutes.
Step 4: Mix Everything Together
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with baked beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and spices. Stir until everything is well mixed and evenly coated.
Step 5: Bake to Perfection
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. If using cheese or bacon bits, sprinkle them on top. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until bubbly and slightly caramelized on the top.
