How to Make Easy Chamoy Sauce Recipe at Home ?

  • Author: Jasmine
  • Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups dried apricots (or dried prunes for a deeper flavor)
  • 1 cup water (for soaking)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed for the best flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tajín seasoning (optional, for extra tang)
  • 12 dried chili peppers (like árbol or guajillo, for heat)

Instructions

Step 1: Soak the Dried Apricots
Start by soaking the dried apricots in 1 cup of water for about 30 minutes. This softens them, making them easier to blend.

Step 2: Blend the Apricots
After soaking, transfer the apricots and the soaking water to a blender or food processor. Blend until you achieve a smooth, thick paste.

Step 3: Cook the Mixture
Pour the apricot puree into a saucepan and add the sugar, lime juice, chili powder, sea salt, and dried chili peppers. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture thickens (about 10-15 minutes).

Step 4: Adjust the Flavor
Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning. Add more chili powder for heat, lime juice for tanginess, or sugar for sweetness, depending on your preference.

Step 5: Strain and Cool
For a smoother texture, strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve. Allow it to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container.
