Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh pineapple, chopped
- 4–5 habanero peppers, stems removed (adjust for spice level)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, peeled
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional, for depth of flavor)
Instructions
Wash and chop the pineapple, habanero peppers, onion, and garlic. Be sure to wear gloves while handling habanero peppers to avoid skin irritation.
In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped pineapple, habanero peppers, onion, garlic, apple cider vinegar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until the fruits and vegetables are soft.
Allow the cooked mixture to cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender or food processor. Add honey, lime juice, salt, and cumin (if using). Blend until smooth. For a thinner sauce, add a bit more water or vinegar.
If you prefer a smoother hot sauce, strain the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp.
Pour the hot sauce into sterilized glass bottles or jars. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.
