Ingredients
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (quality is key!)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or 1 small clove fresh garlic, finely minced)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, but it adds a nice tang)
Instructions
Step 1: Combine the Olive Oil and Seasonings
In a small bowl or shallow dish, pour in the extra virgin olive oil. Add the dried oregano, basil, garlic powder (or fresh garlic), and red pepper flakes. Give it a gentle stir to mix everything together.
Step 2: Add Salt and Pepper
Season the olive oil mixture with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust to your preference, adding more salt or pepper if desired.
Step 3: Stir in Balsamic Vinegar (Optional)
If you’re using balsamic vinegar, add it now for a little extra tang. Stir to combine, then taste the dip once more and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Step 4: Let It Rest
Allow the olive oil dip to sit for 10-15 minutes. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together and develop a rich depth of taste.
Step 5: Serve with Fresh Bread
Serve the olive oil dip alongside slices of freshly baked or toasted bread. Baguette, ciabatta, or sourdough are ideal choices, but feel free to use your favorite bread!
